Cluttr
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
1. Who we are
Cluttr Limited is a New Zealand registered company operating from Christchurch. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use Cluttr, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do with it.
We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you want to reach us about anything on this page, email hello@usecluttr.com.
2. What we collect
| Information | When we collect it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address | When you create an account, from your Google or Microsoft account | To identify your account and contact you about your items |
| Phone number and suburb or city | Before your first scan | So a collection can be arranged without chasing you for details |
| Photographs of your items | When you scan | To identify each item and estimate what it is worth |
| Item details and estimated values | Generated when you scan | To build your bundle and show a reseller what they are collecting |
| Collection address and chosen pickup times | When you book a collection | So the reseller can come to you |
| Bank account name and number | When you tell us where to send your money | To pay you your share, and to keep required financial records |
| Email address only | If you join the waitlist without an account | To tell you when Cluttr reaches your area |
| Device and usage data | As you use the site | To understand which parts of the product work and which are broken |
We do not ask for and do not want government identification numbers, bank passwords, or health information. Please do not send them to us.
3. Your photographs
Photographs are the heart of how Cluttr works, so it is worth being specific about them.
- Photos you take in the scanner are uploaded to our storage and sent to OpenRouter, which passes them to an AI model provider, currently OpenAI, to identify the item and help estimate its value.
- Before a reseller takes your bundle they see the item photos and your suburb, never your address. Once they take it, they can see the photos in full and may use them in the listing they create to sell each item.
- Photograph the item, not the room. Anything else caught in the frame, including people, documents and screens, is uploaded along with it.
- You can ask us to delete your photographs at any time, subject to section 7.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only where it is needed to run the service:
| Who | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The reseller who collects your items | Your first name, phone number, collection address, pickup time and item photos | They cannot collect from you otherwise |
| Supabase | Account data, item records, photographs | Our database, authentication and file storage provider |
| OpenRouter and OpenAI | Item photographs and any notes you add to a scan | Item identification and value estimation |
| Our bank | Your name, bank account number and the amount we pay you | Paying out your share |
| Geoapify | The address you type when booking a collection | Finding and checking your address |
| Resend | Your email address and the content of our emails to you | Sending transactional email |
| Telegram | Job and item details sent to resellers | Notifying resellers about available collections |
| eBay, Trade Me and Facebook Marketplace | Item photographs, titles and descriptions | Listing your items for sale once collected |
| PostHog | Device and usage data, with web addresses stripped of anything after the page name except campaign tags | Product analytics |
| Vercel | Technical request data | Hosting the website |
Several of these providers are outside New Zealand, which means your information is stored and processed overseas. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
5. Resellers and charities
- If you apply to become a reseller, we collect the details on the application form and use them to assess and, if accepted, onboard you. Accepted resellers are identity checked.
- Resellers receive your name, phone number and address only for a collection they have taken or that you have approved, and only for as long as needed to complete it. Our database enforces this, not just our app.
- If you choose to send your share to a local charity, we share the amount with that charity. We do not give them your contact details unless you ask us to.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, and PostHog to measure how the product is used so we can fix what is not working. PostHog may record how you move through a page, with everything you type masked. We do not sell advertising and we do not use advertising trackers. Our homepage includes a YouTube video, and YouTube may set its own cookies when it loads.
7. How long we keep it
- Account information is kept while your account is open.
- Item records, photographs and transaction history are kept while they are needed to run a sale and afterwards where we are required to keep financial records.
- Waitlist email addresses are kept until you ask us to remove them, or until we close the waitlist for your area.
- When information is no longer needed for any of the above, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
8. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can also ask us to delete your account and the information attached to it.
Email hello@usecluttr.com and we will respond within 20 working days, as the Act requires. If you are not happy with how we have handled a privacy issue, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
9. Security
Access to customer information is limited to the people who need it. Data is encrypted in transit, and our database enforces access rules so one customer cannot read another's records and a reseller sees only the collections they are working on. Pages you open while signed in are not stored on your device for offline use. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner if a breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm.
10. Children
Cluttr is not intended for children under 16. Resellers must be old enough to enter a binding contract.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and move the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you directly.
